María José Villacreces

Originally from Manabí, I am a lawyer with a strong academic foundation and a diverse professional background spanning both the public and private sectors. From my university years onward, I combined work and study, gaining early professional experience and distinguishing myself for my conflict resolution skills and ability to manage institutional relationships. During this time, I was elected as the Student Representative to my university’s Academic Council.
My legal career began in notarial offices and private law firms, eventually leading me to the legal department of the Municipality of Manta—a dynamic port city that ignited my interest in maritime affairs.
As Legal Counsel at the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment, and Fisheries, I deepened my expertise in maritime and international law. I later served as General Manager of Land at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, where I broadened my knowledge in civil and administrative law. Most recently, at EP Petroecuador, I advised on complex legal matters involving administrative, international, and maritime law, among other key regulatory issues.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Maritime and Port Law from TECH University in Spain, and I am recognized for my technical precision, practical mindset, and strong commitment to public service and the advancement of Ecuador’s legal framework.
